In what is the largest child abuse case in the United States, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) reached a $850 million settlement with tens of thousands of abuse victims.
Over 84,000 people were part of the lawsuit against the organization, with claims of abuse from volunteers and leaders as far back as the 1960s.
The BSA filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year due to mounting legal costs. Insurance rights for the past 40 years will be placed in a trust to be controlled by the survivors’ group that could amount to billions more for the victims.
