Native American tribes have reached a $590 million opioid settlement with J&J and other distributors, the New York Times reported on Feb. 1, 2022. Funds from the tentative deal will be overseen by Native American tribal leaders and will go toward addiction treatment.
The current settlement follows last year’s $75 million deal with the distributors and the Cherokee Nation. The total paid to tribes will be $665 million, with additional money committed to the tribes by Purdue Pharma, in a settlement currently in mediation.
